WhatsApp Introduces New AI Feature ‘Imagine Me’ for Self-Generated Photos

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has recently been expanding its features, including the introduction of Meta AI chatbots in select markets. The latest development includes the testing of a new feature called ‘Imagine Me’ that allows users to generate AI-generated photos of themselves.

Development of ‘Imagine Me’ Feature

The ‘Imagine Me’ feature has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp for Android beta release. This optional feature will allow users to upload reference selfies, which will then be used by the Meta AI to generate new AI images of the users. This feature is still in development and is not yet available for testing.

Users can access the ‘Imagine Me’ feature by typing “Imagine me” in the Meta AI chat window. Additionally, it can be accessed in other chats by typing “@Meta AI imagine me”. The feature allows users to choose various backgrounds and locations to add to their pictures, ranging from forests to outer space. This feature is expected to be useful for creating customized stickers.

According to reports, users will have the option to delete the uploaded selfies at any time through settings. The personalised AI image-generating option is said to be optional, and users will have to manually turn it on in their settings. This feature is expected to be available in a future update of WhatsApp.

Meta AI, the company’s ChatGPT competitor, has been rolling out in various markets, including India. It is powered by the in-house Llama 3 large language model (LLM) and is available on other Meta-owned platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

WhatsApp’s new ‘Imagine Me’ feature shows the continuous evolution and integration of AI technology into the messaging platform. This feature offers users the ability to generate AI images of themselves, providing a fun and personalized experience. With privacy options and customizations available, this feature is expected to be well-received once officially launched in a future update.
