Recently, a number of users have reported a troubling issue with their Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6A phones. After attempting to factory reset their devices, they were left with bricked phones that display error messages and fail to boot up properly.
The reported problem seems to occur after users try to reset their phones, with an error message stating, “Cannot load Android system. Your data may be corrupt.” This message prompts users to perform a factory data reset and erase all user data stored on the device. However, even after attempting to do so, users are met with another error indicating a missing file called tune2fs.
While some users have mentioned experiencing the issue after a software update, it appears that the root cause of the problem lies in the factory reset process itself. The missing file, tune2fs, is a Unix command line tool used to set file system parameters, suggesting a glitch in the reset procedure.
Members of the Pixel support forums and Reddit have come together to discuss and compile complaints about the issue. Unfortunately, even Google’s official recovery tools have proven ineffective for some users in restoring their bricked devices.
Google has acknowledged the problem and is currently investigating the issue. As of now, there is no official fix or workaround provided by Google for users affected by this issue. It remains to be seen how Google will address and resolve the situation for those with bricked Pixel 6 series phones.
The reports of bricked Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6A phones following a factory reset are a cause for concern among users. The inability to recover the devices using official tools and the recurring error messages suggest a deeper issue with the reset process. As Google continues to investigate the matter, affected users are left without a clear solution.
