China Urges EU to Revoke Tariffs on Chinese Electric Vehicles

The recent decision by the European Union to impose provisional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles has prompted China to call for a reevaluation. Following discussions between China’s commerce minister, Wang Wentao, and Valdis Dombrovskis, the executive vice president of the European Commission, both sides have agreed to engage in new talks regarding the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese EVs.

Chinese officials are pushing for the European Commission to revoke its tariff decision by July 4 and to adhere to the rules set by the World Trade Organization. The imposition of provisional duties of up to 38.1% on Chinese EV imports, in addition to the existing 10% duty already in place, is viewed as detrimental to the economic and trade cooperation between China and the EU.
