WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta, has been constantly improving its security features. In addition to the existing Chat Lock functionality introduced earlier this year, WhatsApp is now reportedly testing a new secret code feature. This feature will provide users with even more control and security over their locked chats.
The upcoming secret code feature will allow users to choose a custom password for their protected chat folder. This added layer of security will further safeguard sensitive conversations. Users will be able to enter the secret code to access their locked chats directly from the search bar of the app. Furthermore, configuring a secret code will enable users to lock chats from companion devices, ensuring privacy across multiple devices.
The secret code feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.23.21.9, which is currently available through the Google Play Beta program. Although not accessible for testers at the moment, the feature is expected to be released in a future update of the app. Screenshots released by WhatsApp suggest that users will have the option to select a word or simple emoji as their secret code for quick and convenient access. It is also likely that users will have the flexibility to change or remove the secret code at any time.
WhatsApp had previously introduced the Chat Lock feature in May for both Android and iOS users. This feature allowed users to keep their messages and conversations private by locking them using passcodes, fingerprints, or face unlock options. With the introduction of the secret code feature, WhatsApp is further prioritizing user privacy and ensuring that even if someone gains access to a user’s phone, the privacy of conversations will remain intact.
WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance security features showcase the platform’s commitment to user privacy. The forthcoming secret code feature will empower users with greater control over their locked chats, allowing them to choose custom passwords and lock chats from multiple devices. By continuously improving security measures, WhatsApp remains at the forefront of providing a secure and private messaging experience for its users.
