WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is continuously working to enhance the privacy and security of its users. In the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, a new feature has been introduced that allows users to hide secret chats.
Keeping Your Chats Hidden
This new feature allows users to set a secret code, which then hides specific chats from the main list. Unlike the previous hiding mechanism that required swiping down in the chat list to open hidden chats, these hidden chats will not be visible until the secret code is entered. This adds an extra layer of privacy and protection for users who want to keep their conversations confidential.
To set a secret code for your hidden chats, you need to update to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.24.20. Once updated, follow these steps:
1. Open the list of locked chats.
2. Tap the three-dot menu at the top.
3. Go to Chat lock settings.
4. Toggle the option to hide locked chats.
5. Enter a memorable secret code.
It is crucial to choose a secret code that you will remember because resetting the code will clear all the locked chats. By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your hidden chats remain protected and inaccessible to anyone who does not know the secret code.
Securing Your Privacy
Once you have hidden your locked chats, they will not be visible in the Locked chats category when you swipe down on the home screen. Instead, you will need to enter the secret code in the search bar to open the hidden chat list. This feature prevents someone who has access to your phone from detecting the presence of locked chats. Merely swiping down will no longer grant them access; they must enter your secret code.
If you prefer the previous locking mechanism that protects your chats with your fingerprint, you can easily switch back to it. Follow the steps mentioned above to toggle the option to hide locked chats, and your locked chats will once again be visible with a swipe down on the list of main chats.
In addition to the secret code feature, WhatsApp is also working on developing another exciting feature. According to feature tracker WABetaInfo, users will soon be able to set a username for channels. This means that channel subscribers will be able to access the channel by entering the username.
With these new features, WhatsApp is continually improving the confidentiality and usability of its platform. The ability to hide secret chats with a secret code provides an extra layer of privacy for users, ensuring that their conversations stay private. Additionally, the forthcoming username feature for channels will make it easier for users to access their favorite channels. WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing user privacy and security is commendable, and users can look forward to more exciting features in the future.
