The Expansion of Valorant: Console and Mobile Versions Coming Soon

Riot’s popular tactical shooter Valorant, which has been a PC-exclusive since its launch in 2020, is now expanding its horizons. The developer has announced that a console version of the game will be available in a limited beta on the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S starting on June 14th. Additionally, a mobile version of Valorant was announced in 2021, although details have been scarce since then.

The console beta of Valorant will be limited to select regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, and Japan initially. However, Riot has stated that the beta may roll out to other global regions shortly after. While there is no official release date for the full console version, players can expect the same “custom-built gameplay” experience as on PC. It is worth noting that crossplay between console and PC will not be available for competitive reasons, although cross-progression will be supported.

Production director Arnar Hrafn Gylfason emphasized Riot’s dedication to ensuring that Valorant’s core competitive gameplay feels natural on a controller. He stated, “We were adamant that Valorant’s core, competitive gameplay must feel natural on a controller. And – if we couldn’t deliver on that gameplay promise – we had to be prepared to walk away from it. We hope we nailed it, but ultimately, our players will have the final say.” This commitment to controller gameplay highlights Riot’s focus on delivering a seamless experience across different platforms.

While the announcement of a mobile version of Valorant generated excitement in 2021, there have been few updates since then. Players are eagerly anticipating more information on this version of the game, as mobile gaming continues to grow in popularity. Riot’s decision to expand Valorant to mobile devices shows their willingness to adapt to evolving trends in the gaming industry.

Riot’s announcement of console and mobile versions of Valorant signifies a significant expansion for the popular tactical shooter. With the upcoming console beta and the promise of cross-progression between platforms, Valorant is poised to reach a wider audience than ever before. As players eagerly await more details on the mobile version, Riot’s commitment to delivering high-quality gameplay across different platforms is clear. The future looks bright for Valorant as it continues to evolve and grow in the gaming landscape.
